I was planning on buying two phosban reactors (1 for carbon and 1 for some kind on phosphate remover, prob Rowaphos) but the trusted LFS lady said that I could just buy one and run PURA complete which is both (carbon & phos remover) has anyone used this product or one similar. Does this work or am I better off going with my original plan? Thanks

I would go with your original plan, simply because it's what I do and it works very well for me.

You'll just have more room for the carbon and phosphate remover if you buy two reactors. Your original idea isn't really needed for a fifty five gallon tank, but there's nothing wrong with overkill ;)

Although you can mix both medias in the same reactor I prefer to set them separate as they work better at different flows and also they get exausted at different times.

That is a very good point that was overlooked.

That was going to be my point as well.. You want the flow through the GFO (phosphate remover ) to be much slower than the carbon (read: barely tumbling) or else it will pulverize and end up being pumped out into your system. Carbon can handle a stronger flow-through.
