It's time to get some new bulbs for the reef. I've always used Coralvue 14,000Ks but I'm wondering if I ought to try something different this time. I have a fixture that included two T5s that are for blue supplementation, and the 14,000K MHs with that is the kind of balance that I like...not too blue, but at the same time not at all "yellowish." Does anyone have any thoughts as to a bulb that may serve me better than the Coralvues? Thanks.

Xm and Hamiltons are good or you can try a 20K bulb. I have found that 20ks give better color and growth.

I use a 175W Hamilton 14k and have been really pleased with the results and color.

The one complaint I have about the Coralvues is that they seem to be dimmer than other bulbs I see. How do the Phoenix and the Hamiltons look?

Not to throw a kink in your plans for getting the reeflux 12k, but I have to say that the Radium 20k is one of the best colors I have ever seen from a MH bulb. It's really a beautiful crisp white w/ blue tint. The corals look gorgeous under this light...

I have heard good things about the reeflux... there are so many choices!!!

The Reeflux 12k can be run efficiently on either the Coralvue or the Icecap Electronics. The new Coralvue Electronics are now UL listed.

I'm surprised no one asked him what ballasts he's running. So I'll be the first, what ballasts do you have?
Also look into the 175w Iwaski 15k par monsters...they'll need T5 sups though.

so you cant run the Reeflux 12ks on any other ballast but them two ballasts??

I run 250w 10k XMs and they are bright... i really cant put any corals higher then half way to 3/4 of the way up my tank with out them getting too much light and bleaching.

It's an Aquactinics fixture. I'm not certain as to the capabilities of the ballast. Right now, like I mentioned, the fixture has two Coralvue 14,000K bulbs.

I have used the Hamilton 250 watt 14K and like it. It is a good bulb with nice color. Tank looks great with it on.
