View Full Version : Does GSP kill SPS?

I have a polyp of GSP stinging the base of one of my Acropora sp. colonies and the base is white where the GSP is touching.

:eek1:

Is this universal for all GSP vs. SPS?

Certainly not a good battle, but I have seen pics of GSP growing over dead SPS skeleton. Is it the case always? I'm not sure.

In my experiences yes.

Here is an old picture.

I hope it doesn't kill it all or at the least not if the SPS gets a chance to grow above it and keep growing out of its range. I placed some nice neon green patches as fillers around my colonies in hopes of eventually not being able to see any rock whatsoever and this is the first patch to touch a colony.

D'oh!

Ugh... I guess I need to either purge the GSP completely out of my tank now that it has attached and started to grow in several different locations or keep it well pruned away from my colonies.

Odds are the GSP is going to outgrow any SPS.

Grrrr... I hate it when I think I have a good idea when it comes to my reef to find out later I created at least a full day of work for myself to undo what I did.

GSP is the worst thing you can put in a fish tank IMO.

Id rather fight slime algea, hair algea, and aptasia together than end up with GSP.

I bought it once, within days I had to remove a bunch of liverock that it grew onto. once its on there, good luck killing it in the tank... basicly have to cement over it with epoxy. which looks real nice...

GSP is Satan's marine form ... it will kill many SPS, zoos, etc, etc , etc ...

 I've had the same 4"X4" square plug of GSP for about 4 years. It has never spread past the plug. Guess I'm not doing something right...

If you can isolate it with sand it will stay put.

all corals are invovled in chemical warfare at all times..........the gsp could kill anything in the tank including itself...........you should cut the gsp out and relocated it or just let the gsp kill the sps............gsp is sometimes considered invasive just like xenia......it will kill anything that trys to compete with it

Drop a Fluke tab into your tank it will kill your GSP and Xenia right quick. Just be prepared to do a water change and syphon out a lot of dead GSP/Xenia.
