Is there really any difference between the 20,000 and the 30,000 leagues Lokani? I have a frag of the 20,000 and was looking to aquire a frag of the 30,000 but now I am second guesing whether it would be worth the time and money if they are virtually the same coral.

Those who know, please explain.

TIA

Jimmy

Im tagging along as well. I have the 30,000. Pics of the two would be nice to see the difference

I would say the difference is about 10,000 leagues

I was looking into that question myself and found that it doesn't contain the same blue coloration as the 20000 leagues lokani

20k gets a teal tint to it in special conditions

the 30k is pretty much purple... in fact, a little dull based with purple ends as it grows out

IMO... the 20k is one of the most delicate frags i've ever dealt with

I agree about the 20k kip

Here is my 30k

I have one of each (large frags/small colonies)

The 20K is indeed very delicate. First to show an alk swing or anything else that's "off" in my tank. When happy it is turquoise, with a green sheen, and purple tips. The more light it gets, the darker it gets. Right now it's too dark (purple) for my taste.

The 30K has been comparatively hardy. It's always been purple from toe to tip, very much like the Tyree purple monster in color. It has white polyps. The structure of the branches is different in the 30K...longer/straighter, less uniform in growth pattern.

In contrast the 20K grows in a table form with regularly sized, curving branches.

My 30k lokani has three variations of purple to it along with a blue sheen. Very pretty...not sure how it compares to the 20k as I decided one was enough and I picked up a nice frag of the 30k :)

The coral in the top left was given to me as a frag of the 30K. The person who gave her a frag told her it was the 20K, but as it started to grow than told her it was the 30K. Needless to say one of my favorite corals.

I have both as well. I agree completely with Kip on this one as well. The 20K is much more delicate and grows more slowly. It does however develop a nice teal sheen on it when happy.

So that's what I have... :o I'll admit I'm really bad on the names and even when I buy them I soon forget all but the more common names.

I've had this coral for some time now and it has always looked like the coral in the middle pic of the link above.

I don't know what the "right" parameters are they speak of. When I bought the coral from a LFS it was pale yellow with no purple. I believed it was on the brink of death as it looked like it was bleaching. I placed it in my tank directly below the mh and it took a while to get color back. It still looks like the middle pic in the link and has plated onto the rock and is steadily growing outward.

Since I placed it there's another acro above it that has been branching out over the Lokani giving it some shade. The end that is clear of the coral above it and in the beam of the MH is purple, but a light purple.
