400 Watt HQI metal Halide?

I have three 400 watt HQI metal halides above my acrylic tank. The acrylic on the top is 1 inch thick. I have three fans blowing across the top of the water. The lights are 8.5 inches above the acrylic. Is this high enough to be safe.
