Distance from light - browning?

I've got a 150 watt MH above a 12 gallon JBJ nano-cube. I've gotten some nice SPS frags but they seem to be browning out and I'm worried they're too close to the light... The ones on top are about 8" from the light, the others down to about 14".... If they're too close, how far should they be placed to avoid browning out?

The opposite is likely happening or you have high nitrates.

my first thought was phosphates
