What did I end up buying?

I went to the LFS yesterday and picked up a fish. I was wanting a Coral Beauty Angelfish, and was thinking this was one and that colors weren't apparent, yet, because it was still a juvenile. Come to find out it's something different entirely. Here's a picture:

It looks like a Pygmy Yellowtail Angelfish (below), except that its face is not dark:

It's doing great in my aquarium and has found every conceivable cave in the live rock and explored it. I really like it, but want to be sure of what I have so that I know what it needs.

It looks like the pygmy yellow tail angel to me. It could just be stressed out, or just not as colorful as the Liveaquaria.com one. Didn't the pet store have it labeled? Either way it will require the same care as the coral beauty.

May be stressed out...but he was the same color in the store. All the labels in the store are in Japanese, so I didn't look at them (can't read Japanese).

If it is a Pygmy Yellowtail, then it should stay small enough to enjoy the caves. It has been in and out of them ever since I got it, even caves I didn't mean to make.

I really enjoy watching this, so he is a very welcome addition!

Oh, I figured you were Japanese...
Well anyway, the fish would have more than likely been stressed in the store too. They usually are with all the moving and people passing and lack of hiding places, etc.
I'm not sure what other type of angel it could be. I would just assume that it isn't as colorful, as this happens a lot with fish.

The coral beauty angels colors can vary. I was considering getting one a while back. Some of them have very dark colors in blues ans almost appearing deep purple. Some also have very minute shades of the other colors on body such as orange.
If you google it under "coral beauty angel pictures", you can see the variance in colors on some verses others. Sounds like you have a great fish from your description and enjoyment with it. :)

Pacific Pygmy Angel

They have the same scientific name, and looking further...I found that these are the same fish as the Pygmy Yellowtail Angelfish (just different common names for the same fish). It's just that when I looked at pictures of the Pygmy Yellowtail Angelfish the pictures didn't look like mine in the face but the Pacific Pygmy Angel pictures do. Weird.
