My tank is three months old now and doing well, but I am now thinking that it is a bit bare, and could do with a couple more pieces of live rock? How do i go about adding extra LR without getting any cycling? I could get cured rock, and QT it for 4-6weeks. Would that work?

i'd buy dead rock or "base rock",that way you don't get any surprises ans save some cash,, it'll color up in no time at all

A few weeks ago I added 75 more pounds of live rock to my 180 gallon reef which has been set up for more than a year and there was not a cycle. The rock was pretty well cured and the biofilter took care of it immediately. Do you have and fish or inverts in the tank right now?

I have 2 clowns, a blenny, a BTA, and a couple of pieces of euphylias sp., a cuke, 2 pepprmints, snails, and hermits

The base rock idea is good, although I like the idea of adding LR, as it can add biodiversity to the tank

I've added live rock before after my tank was cycled. No problems. Just be sure to get cured rock otherwise you will have an ammonia, nitrite, nitrate spike.

I would QT for 4-6 weeks just to be sure that you're not importing parasites, and to absolutely sure the rock is completely cured.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go for a 1.03sg dip, and then a QT

Instead of adding more live rock, add more corals that can aid in giving the appearance of structure.

Find some tall gorgonians or a long tall leather, for example, to give more height.

Are we collecting rock garden tanks, or are these reefs? :)
