I use vinegar/water and then dry it with a fiber rag...

I use Windex, however, it tends to leave steaks.

i wouldnt use windex, i use a product from API called safe and easy, but have also used water vinegar in the past.

i knew someone whos maid used windex on the outside of her nano missed with the spray and did some damage to the tank.

I use the simple, cheap, and easy method. Take a wet paper towel, rub down your glass, then get a 6 inch squeegee from any hardware store and run it across the glass, horizontally, starting at the top working your way down. It comes out perfect, no streaks, no running out of solution. My LFS does the same thing.

The best thing I have used and probably the safest because it doesnt use any chemicals is to just rub the tank down with a shami cloth. This cleans the glass really good, doesnt leave any streaks and you dont have to use any liquids (chemicals) to clean it so its probably the safest thing to do too.

Shami is the winner

I use tap water and a white Tee shirt. Just a little water to wipe away any salt then dry with the rest of the shirt. I used to use windex but it would always streak. water + T-shirt, simple & easy

if you use you're magnet on you're tank daily you shouldn't have to worry too much about cleaning the outside of you're tank. Any fingerprints and water wipe right off with a cloth.

wipe off any salt with a towel then get some balled up newspaper wet and rub around then take some balled dry newspaper and dry

Windex works fine for cleaning the outside of the tank. Obviously you don't spray it directly on the tank, otherwise you risk getting some in the water. What you should do is spray it onto a paper towel in another room (preferably on another floor) and then wipe down the glass. If there are any streaks simply wipe them off with a dry paper towel. You can use any number of glass cleaners this way without any ill effects.

Yay Jake. It's good to know someone has a brain when using windex on their front glass. I was getting kind of annoyed until I got to your post.

I use a wet paper towel to wipe up salt. Then use a bunched up piece of dry newpaper to dry off remaining water and buff out the streaks.

I waxed my glass on my last tank .... will last for about a month at a time, just wipe with a soft cloth

I use a spray bottle that is just water. Then I use a dry towel and wipe it off. It works great. I use it on my tank stand to.

Im the same as Jake I use windex on a towel just spray it on it then go to my tank. I keep it in the bathroom so I spray it on in there so I dont have a woops and spray inside of my tank.

I read (another thread) that peroxide + water in a spray bottle is excellent.

For acrylic, Novus. For glass, water and a tshirt or equivalent soft nonabrasive cloth.

I more vote for Windex, just spray it on the towel first not onto the tank itself.

water and a micro fibre cloth as used on motor vehicles to dry, apply and remove polish/wax. Works like a bomb and does not streak

Tap water, lemon juice and Bounty.

Just a small point but as someone who wears glasses - No paper towels. Very small scratches can build up over time. Find a cotton t shirt or shami. Just my 2 cents.

My optometrist actually specifically recommended Bounty for cleaning glasses (and aquarium glass, by extension) because of the type of fibers used. Been cleaning the glass with it for 8 years, and never left a scratch. Of course a soft cotton T or good shami cloth will do the trick just as well.

The Peroxide works great. If I have saltwater on the glass or the glass is really dirty this is what I use. If the glass isn't real dirty I use a dry T-shirt and just wipe over the glass.
