I am upgrading tanks soon, and am looking into getting a chevron tang. Anyone had luck with them? Also has anyone had theirs shipped?

Any comments would be great thanks!

They have them regularly here in S florida. I'm yet to give one a shot though.

they do fine in aquariums. Juvies are nicer and tend to adapt a little better. I have never had a problem not getting them eat.

I want to get one also. I definitely agree the juvi pattern is alot nicer IMO

I have just heard well.. its always a different answer, but alot of people say they are hard shippers, others say they ship fine. I want to get one but wanted to know how they shipped if anyone had that experiance. I have yet to see one available in the 3-4 LFS I go to, thus I will be ordering one.

Thanks!

awesome fish!!! i got mine when it was quarter size about a year ago and now its about 3.5". I've never had any problem with ick, or aggression. IMO its the perfect reef tank resident. And beautiful although i am one person who thinks the adult colors r more spectacular than the juvi ones. Under actinic lighting their lines glow green.

oh ya I also think its awesome, just deciding to make the leap and get it shipped all the way from Hawaii. lol. (since no LFS ever have one). Looks like I am taking the leap. Thanks!

I like mine's adult colors equally well with its juvenile colors. Nice fish, no hassles.

agreed. Gaudy doesn't equal pretty all the time.

FYI, mine cahnged from juvi colors to adult isn like 45 seconds. Well, it was quick, you get the idea.

jmaneyapanda, how big is yours? Someone told me I cannot QT this fish because I have to put it right into an established reef for the live rock to graze on... this sounds false to me?

Now, its about 5-6" or so. I got him at about 2". He is constantly wiorking at the glass rockwork for diatomaceous algae, but he also eats everything. Run your QT for a little while to get soem algae in there, aybe even put some live rock, and you'll be fine.

ok good idea, I have a couple peices that I have had just sitting in my sump gathering algae, I will put one in my QT. (I do not medicate) so no problem using it.

Thanks for the tips all, I will let you know how the fish comes in when I find a day I can place an order when I am not working lol.

I've had mine for about a year now. He owns the tank. Very agressive to any new fish I put in. He shows any new fish why they are called surgeonfish. He put a half inch gouge in my new copperband the day I added him.

Here is a photo of mine when I first got him:

He is not as bright orange anymore. More of orange with a hint of brown. Also less blue.

The adults are quite stunning. Very subtle colorations, but still really cool looking. Mine is about 7-8" now and just really cool. Not very aggro, pretty mellow, granted I havent added any big fish in ages. Ive had it for 2 years at least, love it.

Just my opinion on the color loss of the adults. The totally pale in comparison to the Juv's color.

You don't usually see to many adult pics of them due to the drab faded look imo. For the cost of the fish, Im sure I'd find a 100 or so with better looks and coloration.

Too eachs own though. I still feel my orange shoulder tang is amazing and most find them boring.

IMO Chevron Juv and Adult > Purple.

I would call the adult very far from "drab". They have an iridescent scribbling over the body in the right light. It is not easy to photograph, but is mesmerizing to watch.

There's a thread on here, fairly recent, with good pics of adult Chevrons. Check it out!! They sure made them very tempting.

Here's the link...

Do you guys think one of these guys would work in a 150 long (72"x18"x27") with a Naso and a Powder Blue?

I already have a Naso on hold and will be looking to pick up a powder blue and one other tang this weekend. Can't decide on the third...Any suggestions (besides Blue and Yellow Tangs)?

I have a Naso and he completely ignores the Cheveron who was added after the Naso. My Naso has been very mellow. Actually it's the Cheveron for me who has been the most aggressive with new fish.

I'm not sure how the Cheveron would do with the PBT though. There probably would be some aggression there. How aggressive has your PBT been to new fish?

Don't have one yet...will be adding all 3 at the same time in the next week or so.
