well at the mo i run a OR2500 on my ClosedLoop in my 75g. and it sucks to be fair... ive considered going up on the OR list.. but ive also seen this :
http://www.firststopaquatics.co.uk/acatalog/Tunze_Master_Electronic_Recirculation_pumps.html

Tunze Master electronic 1073.090
Pumping capacity: 8,300 l/h

(2,190 US gal./h)

Energy consumption: 120 W

Pumping head: 5 m (196.8 in.)

Voltage / frequency: 230V/50Hz

is this going to blow my tank to bits ?? the CL is retunred through 2 x 1" pipes

I have much more flow then that in my 65g.

i have to agree, you will be fine, depending on direction of flow. point everything slightly upward and you will be fine. i would maybe recommend a little more, but i like high flow. i have 3100 GPH on my 72 gallon bowfront, and the sand doesn't blow around at all.

Should be fine. I have over 4000 GpH in my 50g, and the sand doesn't get blown around. It stays perfectly clean though.

Master electronic 1073.160
Pumping capacity: 15,700 l/h

(4,142 US gal./h)

Energy consumption: 230 W

Pumping head: 5 m (196.8 in.)

Voltage / frequency: 230V/50Hz

flow flow flow, think about the ocean, I don't know if you have ever been snorkeling, but the water movement is crazy down there on the corals. Now I'm not saying create a typhoon in your tank javascript:smilie(':D') , but high flow is always good!

IIRC, the tunze pumps are all water cooled. I don't know if I'd even think about adding a 200w submersible pump/water heater to a tank that size.

You'd be much better off going to streams

What do you have in the tank? That would determine the range of flow you need. LPS and softies like less flow where as SPS can handle a lot more. I know people that have SP tanks and they are running like 100x overturn which would be 7500gph in your tank. I have a 75g that I am working on (very slowly) and I have a Sequence Barracuda for my closed loop.

This all makes me think of my paltry 950 gph Mag Drive (9.5) I think I willl look into more flow for my 75 gal....

I converted my wet/dry to a fuge so I'm not sure how I could accomidate a large flow without overflowing somewhere.
This is what I have: http://www.pro-clear.com/wetdry.html

i am going to be running a dart on a CL on my 75 so i think you will be just fine with that.

You really do not want a large flow through your sump or fuge. You want most of the flow through the display tank. I will be using a CL on mine and it will have about 4000gph, but mu sump will only have about 400gph so that the skimmer has time to do it's job.

ratpack, if the skimmer is rated for 790 gph can you run more though the sump then?

So a CL is a kind of pump for the display and not the sump?

i closed loop is not a pump but a pump and plumbing that pulls water from the tank through the pump then back into the tank, like power heads push water around the tank this does the same just without them in there display. You can use any pump for a CL as long as it can move enough water, i have seen quiet ones used for closed loops and hammer heads, i am going to be using a dart and i can send you a link to get an idea of the build if you wish. This was all new to me a few months ago so i know where your coming from. CL just means the water never really goes anywhere besides around the tank and all not into the sump. sorry if that is a bit hard to follow it is still early for me.lol

CL means closed loop, pulls water from the display to recirculate back into the display for added flow and circulation

I am not an expert, but I think you want the flow through the sump to be close to what the skimmer can handle, but the best rule of thumb that most follow is 5-10x water volume through the sump. Example, 75g would be 375 - 750 gph through the sump.

the tunze pump is out of the water. its running a CL.. it pulls water out a strainer on the bottom of the tank.... and puts it back in with currently 2 pipes near the top rear of the tank

With my Mag 9.5 in the sump I have a Mag 3 on my Remora Pro skimmer. Is this match up ok?

How large is your drain plumbing? 2000gph be a lot of suction at a small CL drain.
