I recently added a clam to my tank last Thursday. I do not know the species, so I'm hoping you guys can ID it for me. I think it's a Crocea, but I could be wrong.

I am trying to get it to grab onto a rock that is about 2" from the surface, where there is more than enough light for it. But it keeps jumping off the rock and falling into the sand. I got annoyed with moving it every hour so for now I have it left in the sand. How can I make it want to attach to the rock? And where is a good place for it to be if it won't stay there?

Also, it looks as if it may be bleaching a little bit from the new lights. What does a bleached clam look like so I can compare mine to it?

Here are some pictures I took. It's usually more open than this, but it had just fallen off the rock onto the sand, so I adjusted it's position and took the pics. Sorry, my camera is balls.

it is a crocea. Place a rock buried under it in the sand, it should attach in a day or two then you can slowly move it up on the rocks.

Yeah, what Skinz said. It falling and being relocated so often is only going to stress it out. I put all new clams in the sand with a shell underneath so they can attach. After a week or two, I move them to their permanent location, if necessary. So far they've all remained in the sand, except for one crazy little guy that relocated itself onto a bed of zoas and attached there. Good luck!
