Hello all,
I've always liked SPS and my newest upgrade is ready for my first SPS i think. :)
What are some cheap, hardy SPS? I'm not running a skimmer right now but i'm shopping for one. Are their any that can be kept with out a skimmer for now? i'm running 4x54w T5's on my 55 with about 1500gph flow. Trying to kick it up to 2250gph or so. 2 corals i know i wanna keep are like Monti caps and bird nests (are those hardy/skimmer-less ok?)

Thank you!,

Nick

Those will be fine. Keep your water parameters in check and stable.

Thanks again,

Yes.......as long as you keep Nitrates, PO4 low. This may mean more water changes, less fish, less feeding...whatever it takes. A skimmer is not necessary, it just makes it easier.

Also maintain good CA and ALK levels.

Done,Done and Done! Thanks Kirsten! I only have 3 small fish right now so that shouldn't be a problem, Oh and PO4 means Phosphate right? So if i have a phosban reactor i should be good there?

Thanks again,

~Nick

You can keep SPS without a skimmer but it means more work, water changes weekly are a must and like others have said Cal, alk, mag and PH need to be in acceptable levels.

some of the hardier SPS's are digi's, monti's and milli's
