I would like to know this as well. Been thinking about it and the Sedra seems like the best option

Pretty much everytthing is better than the sedra 9000.

Eheim 1260 NW, Sicce PSk2500, Quietone3000 NW, etc.

ive searched for all 3 pumps with the needlewheel and have come up empty handed.

do you have a link to any of them.

thanks john

I believe H&S will sell you an eheim (for 300 or so...yikes...Euroreef might too, although they're vey stingy with their replacement parts), marinesolutions and a couple other places will sell you a sicce, and the sicce and quietone are essentially the same pump. THe tunze hydrofoamer is also an option, although expensive (300).

Other than that, DIY'ing a quietone or eheim to use a meshwheel is easy.

The sedras are just loud, really innefficient, and don't pull all that much air.

If you're any bit handy, you can have a modded a Quieteone 3000 for roughly $45 and pull a lot more air than a sedra9000 on 25w.

i have did the mod on my current oct3000 pump. does the quieteone 3000 have a needlewhell as a replacement or do you have to mod the whole impellar?

thanks john

The quietone has a flat disk impellar with fins on it.

(thats a 9000 impellar, 3000 is basically the same).

You just shave off the blades, drill a couple holes and attach some mesh. I just really hate the sedras.

The eheim is probably the best pump of them all, but pricey.

How much air does a modded Quiet one 3000 pull in comparison to the sedra 9000?

im in the same boat. i want a new pump for my nw-200 skimmer and i really want to get away from a mesh wheel. i want something with less water flow but about 25- 30 scfh. i have just been having a hard time to get this skimmer to skim very well.
