I am seriously considering starting some of the ultralith and fauna marin products to start coloroing up my tank. But i would not want to buy the ultralith reactor to try this. Is there another way you can try the ultralith, without buying a reactor?

I did read about using the 4 basic fauna marin products and this is what i would want to try.

ultralith
ultrabak
ultrabio
ultramins

that is the basic 4 correct?

Or even a better question would i be able to use all of them minus the ultralith?

Yes, the above listed are the 4 basic UltraLith system products. You can either build your own reactor or use the FM UltraLith bag. Without the use of the UltraLith media, you will not experience the true potential of the system.

Hiya

yes these are the main components, however the Ultra min S is great product to start with.

The reason you need the other components is because Ultra lith by nature makes your system Nutrient weak on purpose and the other components then replenish your system at the level required by nature.

Vinny would explain this better i am sure

Here's a brief explanation of how each of the 4 basic UltraLith products work:

The UltraBio replaces current tank bacteria that more effectively helps in speeding up the nitrogen cycle. (Ammonium to Ammonia to Nitrite to Nitrate to Nitrogen Gas) The result is no Nitrite or Nitrate.

UltraBak is the true nutrient reducer, by reducing and removing all organics and Phosphates.

As the system becomes more nutrient poor, corals will need higher quality food. This is where UltraMin S comes into play. The product will feed all corals without throwing off the system's chemical balance.

UltraLith rocks help in clearing up water (Not a carbon replacement!), removes Ammonium and Ammonia, provides a home for UltraBio bacteria so they can multiply faster. This product also helps hold in food that corals can utilize which is why pumping the UltraLith reactor is recommended.

The 4 products above will cover all soft and hard corals.

Overall, the system would not be as effective without the use of the UltraLith media.

UltraBio can also be used successfully without UltraLith and helps to maintain beautiful colors and a healthy environment

do you just place the ultralith bag in your sump?

Yes, you'd place it in the sump preferably in a steady low flow area depending on how much UltraLith is needed.

ReefRockerLive,
Where can I get an ultralith bag?

Also, do you have a link to the ultralith reactor I could build myself?

Thanks

docwells, you can get the UltraLith bag from Cherry Corals. I'll look for some pics of a DIY reactor.

docwell,
As you can see the UltraLith media bag is a different from a standard mesh media bag. In is a must have if you are not using a reactor with the system. The bag holds between .5L - .75L of media.

Aquabacs,
Thanks for the picture. It is a different bag than a standard mesh bag. My order is pending. Hope to get started soon.

How much more effective is a reactor vs the bag, or is there any difference at all?

Is this bag recomened for any size system i have a standard 55 gal system would the bag be ok for my system or do you get better results from the reactor. I have a very low nutrient system already no3=0 po4=0.01-0.03 but just lookin for some color help. If so can you explain how the bag works or is the and instuction about the bag at all that i can read. Thanks alot

The bag can be used by users who may not have enough room for an UltraLith reactor or will be utilizing the system in a smaller tank. The UltraLith bag can be used for any size tank as long as you have an idea of the amount of flow going through your sump where it would be placed.
