I have an MCE600 HOB skimmer. I want to cut down on the downtime that I experiance when my skimmer needs cleaned. I am considering buying a spare pump so that I can always have one clean and ready to go.
Does anyone else do this?
How long do you soak your pump to get it clean?
I have had to soak mine for days and I do not like to go that long without my skimmer.

You should not have to soak it for days. I generally soak pumps for a few hours. What are you using to soak the pump in?

No soaking for me, I just scrub mine with a stiff tooth brush. Has worked good for me.

Muriatic Acid and water. I let it soak until I hear the rattling in the pump. That usually takes a couple of days.

What % muratic vs water are you using?

I am not sure honestly. The first time Doug told me what to do. The second time I mixed a bucket of water and acid and just estimated. There was roughly 3 gal of water and about a half of cup of acid.

Tagging along.
I just bought an MCE600 myself. And I too am interested in getting a backup pump. Who/Where do I contact?

So what is the proper mixture? How long should I normally soak it?

I clean pumps in vinegar from the grocery store. They'll clean up nicely with 2hr in straight vinegar. You can go 50/50 with vinegar and water to stretch out your vinegar supply more.
IMO, no real need to risk ruining your clothes using muriatic acid.
