Hi,

I just setup a kalk drip for the first time. I bought Seachem kalk to be safe for the first time out. I've read that you have to let it settle, but for how long? I made up a gallon (2 tsp of kalk/gal), shook it up, poured it into the dripping reservoir, and it's still cloudy 24 hours later. Is this normal? I thought it was supposed to appear to be clear water with some stuff on the bottom. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Grant

Seachems kalkwasser is extremely pure.

I would not worry about the cloudiness.

Drip away my friend. :)

Thanks for the advice, Billybeau. In the future, how long should I wait for it to settle, assuming it stays cloudy?

Thanks,
Grant

An hour is usually sufficient if you are dripping... The impact in your tank should not cause you problems... are you dripping into the sump or directly into the tank?

I'm dripping into the sump. Last night was the first time I've dripped and it really kept the pH up. Usually it's at 8.05 to 8.25 during the day but it'll drop to 7.85 to 7.9 at night. I've seen it as low as 7.69 at night, but last night, it held steady at 8.01 to 8.07. I haven't (and may never) set up a reverse daylight refugium, so let's hear it for the kalk drip!

I have the light on my refugium on 24/7 and never have issues with PH dropping...

I wanted to switch over to Kalk since im at the point where my tank is sucking too much liquid ca. What dripping system are you using? is it home made? got any pics?

This worked perfectly for me. I just use a gallon container instead. With trial and error, I figured the right drip rate for a half gallon per day (roughly my evap rate) and I refill it every two days.
