Going to the Florida Aquarium over the weekend and am taking my new XT with me and would like some advice as to which lens would be better for me. I have a 70-300 and a 50 1.8. I was leaning towards the the 70-300 but wondered if I was leaning the wrong direction. Also if any of you could throw some tips on setting s my way I'd be grateful.
Thanks
Fred

It going to be dark, I would take the 50mm for sure. The 70-300 is a good lens, but you'll find its downfall in thirst for light. You can't exactly use flash in an aquarium either. I would take both but if only one, the 50mm f/1.8.

I was there once and used a Canon P&S and got a couple shots that weren't a total waste. Most of what I'll be doing will have to be manual due to the lack of light and being able to use flash. I just don't have any experience at this and am unsure how to set the camera up.

Your Canon P&S (assume f/2.8) could probably work in 4 times darker conditions than a 70-300 (f/5.6). The 50 f/1.8 could probably work in twice the dark compared to the P&S. This is one of several reasons we preach over and over and over, the lenses are more importiant than the camera.
