View Full Version : Any chance of a splitter?

I know these boards are going to be on fire with comments, questions, complaints these next couple weeks. However I have a question/comment.

I finally get the maximum of 50 feet on the lines bit, simply because there is only one direction you can go, so basically you'd be making one huge 50 foot long line (just through your particular devices.

Ok so here's the issue I have with this. The USB dongle, which I'm guessing eventually will hook to a computer of some sort, HAS to be at the end of the whole chain, since there are two ports, one port always goes back towards the head unit, the other port goes to the next unit. So if a computer was near my head unit, I'm screwed, unless the whole chain of items comes back.

Now I'm not asking for a "I need this NOW!" type thing, however are there any possible plans in the future to allow you to have some sort of splitter? So you can octopus your RKE & devices, rather than snake them?

The SID at the moment, is used for updating firmware on units and will not be attached to the system.

The answer to your question is yes... Actually any 6 connection splitter will work and allow you to currently do what you're asking.

And yes in the future when the SID is used for things other then updating you will also be able to use this method.

Oh good, so an off the shelf splitter is ok to use?

Yes as long as it's a "one to one", "replicator", or "pass through"... ...you may see any of these terms used. The reason I mentioned a 6 connection splitter is because they are usually of the correct pin configuration without having to worry.

NOTE: The pin configuration IS important!!! Using the incorrect splitter CAN cause a certain type of failure that can take down your system. We will post more about the splitter on our site soon. You may want to wait until we post before trying one out.

Ok sweet. Good to know. Like I said earlier, not a big deal now, hell now the only thing I'm controlling for the first week is my lights (expensive light timer!) and I'm checking out my temp & pH as I want to see how screwy I've been running it before I get into adjusting everything.

Later on, I'll worry about creating an octopus of modules.
