Frag plugs vs. frag disks vs. rock rubble vs. suspension

I am wondering what you find best for fragging. I have heard that some corals do better on certain surfaces, but I'm not sure which ones they are.

Please post:
- which you use
- which corals you frag
- where you house the frags
- pros and cons
- experience you have had in growth rates
- anything else you feel is relevant to the discussion

I think it depends on what you're fragging:

I like rock rubble for softies like Kenya, Colt, Devil's Hand, etc. Just find a small rock and wrap a rubberband around the frag to hold it to the rock. You have to find a good spot where the rubberband just does enough to hold the frag, but not put a lot of pressure on it.

I use frag plugs for all my zoanthids and most SPS. Either regular super glue or gel works. The plugs work well in eggcrate because they will stay in place and you can organize the frags a little better.

I haven't done much LPS fragging, but most of the frags I have are either not mounted or are on a larger frag disc.

I house my frags in a 50g Rubbermaid stock tank with an eggcrate shelf. One metal halide in a Lumenarc 3 Large reflector on a 250w Icecap ballast

For SPS, I really like coral cradles. For softies and LPS, I like disks which can itself be fragged. Fragging propogated acans on a disk is far easier then a rock.

one other thing is that I like using large rocks for things that spread like zo's and gsp as an intermediate step. With this you can take small pieces and put them on a large rock to grow out then take small pieces off the big rock and put it on a disk.

Depends. I have a bunch of rubble I use, but also lately have been using 1" & 2" white marble tile from Home Depot. It's pretty cheap, but downside is it comes in a sheet held together by a mat. 40-grit sandpaper removes that easily enough though. I like the frag discs as well for most LPS.

I don't do much SPS, but the few pieces I've been given are stuck high on the glass with my DIY bottle-cap mag mounts (2 plastic bottle caps + 2 magnets + epoxy + sand = mag mount).
