So I thought I would start the wish list for the RKE now that some of us have had a few days to play around with it.

* Ability to name channels

* Tech Support access via internet (when module is released) where the user grants DA access to download programming to help troubleshoot issues

* Ability to have MainDisplay to rotate thru multiple settings every "x" seconds, so it could rotate from TEMP, PH, etc, etc

* Ability to hide/unhide icons and/or menu's if not going to use them, same sort of thing as inputs on a tv in setup menu.

I want to make sure that we state this up front!

We have a number of things that we're working on from the listed bug fixes, new modules, and a few firmware updates... We will be asking for customer input for the next version of firmware when we get closer, but I don't want this thread to set an unreasonable expectation for a release date OR feature list for the next firmware version.

Otherwise, have at it everyone!

Thanks,

DA

This thread is in no way to set any expectations, just ideas and requests for features that we would like to see in future releases of firmware; to make this the best controller out there!

Thanks for the info DA!

No worries! We've seen other posts like this get crazy so I just wanted to add our two cents. We listen to what people want but the one thing that usually take these treads in the wrong direction is the VERY big difference in a home project by a knowledgeable person and a sustainable product to manufacture and support for a company.

All and all we are excited about the potential the RKE offers us as both a company and as hobbyist. It's going to provide a great platform for a lot of great things to come!

A seven day time clock for lights :)

The actual keys should be lit - last night I was trying to program something when I got home very late, though I could see the backlit display with no problem, I had to turn on the room lights anyway, so I could see the buttons.

Maybe this is already in there but from what I've read it's not. How about a power failure alarm? One that has a delay of a few minutes (settable to avoid nuisance alarms). It would seem this would be an easy add-on and I, for one, would find it important.

Oh, one more, for people rear-mounting the head unit it sure would be nice if you had a bezel. Otherwise it requires very precise routing and painting to the cut-out to look nice. A bezel would provide a nice, finished appearance and would cost next to nothing.

...would cost next to nothing.

Don't be to sure of that... There is a great deal of expense in some of the little things. It's not always the one off cost of an individual piece. We had considered a number of the suggestions (in this thread in fact,) but the feed back we got was more focused on price; keeping the unit under $500 was an important goal!

+ 1 on this.

Not sure how easy it would be to make that change this late in the game, but that really WOULD have been nice... I had to turn the light in my sump on last night in order to see the buttons, so I know *exactly* what you're talking about...

Oh, well! Maybe on the RKEII?

DA -

We are all appreciative of you guys keeping the controller under $500, we all have to realize that for the added features and parts, there is an associated price, and I am sure most of us are willing to pay for the options as long as they are availible for us.

I also +1 the lights behind the keys as well, a few surface mount led's would do the trick...

DA - Is there room in the head unit to add LED's for button backlights?

There is no way to retro fit the unit. There are also other restrictions that prevented us from doing that. But we did talk about it.

Being able to name channels, inputs, outputs, controls, etc, should be at the top of the list. It is already pretty confusing and as you add more probes/devices it will be a nightmare.

If I change the wiring of the bus and the order of the PC4s from the head unit change, does the id # for the PC4 change or will it stay with ID first assigned?

I suppose cheeping out and making the unit out of cheap mcdonalds plastic, and something solid like metal, was a way of keeping it under "500$"

Plastic is practical. I'm not a fan of it's overuse and wasteful applications, but IMO it's perfectly suited for this purpose...

I know the RKII head unit is metal, and I always liked it. But this is fine for me, too...

I think it would be nice to change the screen color for day and night mode, not just intensity.

Trevor S

How about if there is an alarm, that it changes screen color, for instance, if your screen color is blue, like i see most of ours is, if an alarm is active, that it would change to RED or blink RED to get our attention?

It does. At least for my temp alarm... It flashes, and flashes "orange"...

Wow. Why all the inconsistencies with the head units?

There is no inconsistency here. The units flash Red when an alarm goes off IF the user has the alarm set with visual.
