I am using an ASM g2 skimmer no mods and saw on anouther skimmer specs that it oporates best in 9" of water. My sump is much higher in water volume and was woundering would i get better skimate with less?

My skimmer operates in up to 10.5" of water. Of course, this is merely where the water output is... and they need to be water level or higher.

So you could raise your skimmer if you needed.

I don't know what the ASM G2 skimmer requires.

As stated, raise your skimmer with a stand. You can find a pre-made (though they are small) HERE (http://www.precisionmarine.com/html/skimmer_stands.html), or if you have local plastics/acrylic dealer they can usually make one up for around $30...
