View Full Version : Tulsa water eats RO membranes

I have been hearing stories 3rd hand about RO membranes not lasting long in Tulsa this spring. And now I have experienced it. I installed a new RO membrane and replaced all 4 cannisters in my Spectapure RO/DI unit two weeks ago, and already am flashing red on the meter.

I will attempt to measure chlorine and TDS later today.

Evidently, the City of Tulsa is having difficulty maintaining consistent levels of chlorine due to this spring's heavy rains. Is there a way to minimize the effect of fluctuating chlorine content? Can additional carbon filters be installed upstream of the RO to protect it?

Thanks,

I too, would like to know the TDS and Cl of the TAP water before I respond.

Also, measure the TDS from the product water port of the membrane and Cl from the waste water port of the membrane.

The largest dammage to RO membranes is going to be from chlorine and Chloramine. Adding in an extra carbon block would help out alot, regardless of pre and post TDS. Carbon blocks also have a useful life that gets over looked.

Hope this helps;)
