As education is a large part of this hobby (and the most important IMO) An idea for a thread dawned on me as i was doing some cleaning up and reorganizing my bookshelf, i thought i'd start a thread for everyone to post thier collection of reef knowadge. Heres mine, on the floor.

I like the looks of that marine biology coloring book!

I personally enjoy Scott W Michaels Reef Fishes series. I have vols 1,2,3 and some other books.

I definitely recommend Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman too.

That's The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium vol. 1-3 by Fossa and Nilsen. They're probably the best books ever written on the subject. Some of the info may be a little outdated but overall I highly suggest them.

this is good, i'm looking for more reading material on the subject. that coral prop book by calfo seems like a nice choice as well, and so do those j sprung books. ahhh where to begin? i havent looked at the prices yet but i can tell my wallet is going to hate me, but i dont care! :D

I bow. I'm a noob to reefkeeping, I only have three books right now. "Corals" by E. Borneman, "The Reef Aquarium; A Comprehensive guide", and "The Reef Aquarium: Volume One"
by Julian Sprung/J. Charles Delbeek.
I'm reading all three them for the eleventeenth time, and someday in the near future I'd like to also get volume two of Sprung's "The Reef Aquarium" series.

peter i've been searching for these but they're out of stock everywhere! seems like only vol.4 is available. If anyone knows where to get these at a reasonable price (i saw them for $185 a pop but still out of stock, also saw for $63 out of stock which is more reasonable) please post here! thanks. :D

TRA Vol. 3 is the only book I have, although I haven't had a chance to sink my teeth into it yet... but I've browsed and damn it has a lot of detailed info I'd never get from message boards without serious digging... no offense peeps :p

eric bornemans corals book is probably next on the list, heard good things.

The Sprung books are good. Vol. 3 is the most recent and a great book if you are in the process of setting up a new system.

As for looking at them first, check your local library. Many libraries carry a number of different reef related books.

skep, I actually do have all three volumes, the 2nd one is actually sitting in front of my toliet, :fun5:

they are a great series

Vol 1 is a good intro to hard corals and tanks themselves
Vol 2 is a great reference to softies and anemones
Vol 3 is awesome for researching new and different filtration methods

thanks greene and skeeter.. i'd go buy them now but then i'd have to sleep on the couch.. i already got yelled at for buying vols 1 and 2 of those fossa and nilsen books for about $150 ... adding to my 'wishlist' on amazon.com

well the books that i ordered were NOT in stock and they charged me anyway, never shipped, called or wrote, then said they would refund my payments and didn't. chargeback! ^_^

Anyhoo, I found vol 1 elsewhere so i ordered it there.

ALSO, has anyone read "Algae: A Problem Solver Guide "
by Julian Sprung ? It looks interesting i'm thinking about buying it. Wow what a geek i feel like... 'yeah i like to read about algae and invertabrates in my spare time' Its a real panty dropper let me tell you... :p
