I wrestle with my (very established) gate-valved G2 alot. Partially because I am not relegious about cleaning the cup and lid (shame on me) but partially because the combination of valve adjustment and height of vertical tube can lead to lots of tinkering.

I have my g2 in a constant 8 inches of water, and the vertical tube top is about half way up the neck of the skimmer. Water from the gate valve is dropping about two inches to the sump.

Still, I have a difficult time getting the right skimmate. Either I am getting sludge or I am getting green tea.

Does anyone have a set of guidelines for tuning?

I have same skimmer. Often times the amount of froth produced depends where I am on waterchange schedule or topoff. New topoff water if I let the doser fall behind often produces lots of froth due to dechlorinator and then balances out after a few hours. Are you letting the skimmer settle in?
