I am watching a discovery show on the great barrier reef and they just showed corals spawning. Very neat. Do corals ever spawn in captivity? Has anyone heard of this being successfully done in captivity?

Depends largely on the type of coral. As far as sps....Pocillopora reproduce in captivity. Acropora is very tough. There was actually an issue of CORAL magazine dedicated to this. It seemed that tanks with acropora spawnings often had open skylights and possibly were tied to the ocean somehow (ie not closed systems). It's been a while since I've read that edition. I would recommend tracking it down, great read. The one factor that really helps any kind of reproduction in coral is to make sure that they are well fed.
