Yellow tang dieing

Hi i have been treating my fish with hypo in my QT for 5 and a half weeks now because of ick. I have a yellow tank a Bristletooth Tomini Tang and 2 True Percula Clownfish. The only fish i did see ick on was the yellow tank that was 5 weeks ago any way my yellow tank is now dieing he had been doing really good but the last few days hes not been eating anything i put in the tank and now he is just laying on his side at the bottom of the tank. Now do you think he maybe stressed out in the QT when i first got him i put him in my QT and he never would eat in my QT only when i put him in the DT did he start eating now i did just check my water the only thing i see bad is high nitrates there about 60 could high nitrates been killing my tang. I am really not sure on what to do so i though i would ask here thx

Where are these nitrate readings DT or QT?

The nitrate readings are from my QT my nitrates in my DT are 0

Have you been doing water changes in the QT? I suspect, you had a elevated ammonia reading. Which by law, changed into nitrites then into nitrates. Do an immediate water change to bring those numbers down. Monitor ammonia and change water often as needed. Hope i could help.

I suspect that if your nitrates are that high then so were your ammonia levels---this is what kills fish, not nitrates

Are you making daily water changes in the qt. How are you filtering it?

I have been doing water changes but not daily i have been doing about 50% water change ever week. I have also been checking for ammonia for the 5 and a half weeks my fish have been in QT and i always got a 0 reading. As for my filter i just use a hob Aqua Clear Power Filter i used a sponge from my DT when i set up my QT. I just did
a 50% water change. thx for the help guys

You might want to check the testing equip(bad batch). Have you looked into an ammonia badge for the QT?

When I QT'd my two clownfish, I did about a 25% water change everyday and I still couldn't get my ammonia levels to zero. Water changes once a week seems to be not enough.

Sorry to hear about your fish. It doesn't sound good.

My bet would be on Ammonia Poisoning or o2 related stress. How big is the QT? How are you checking for Ammonia and how often?

Are you sure it was ICH that you saw on the fish. There are other diseases that manifest themselves similiar to ICH that do not respond to Hypo.
Are you using a calibrated refractometer?

I am checking for ammonia once a week and i am using a API test kit my QT is only 10gl i would normally only put one fish in there but with my tang getting ich i had to put them all in there. Yea i am sure it was ich i looked at a lot of pic of ich it looked like salt stuck to him all over. And i am using calibrated refractometer

I would also be using the Ammonia Alert as they can give you a heads-up to a problem before it happens.

You should also be closely watching the ph , Ammonia and for signs of stress related to low o2. Due to the situation you should be checking much more frequently then once per week.

Something else to consider is that many times when fish are treated for ICH they are highly susceptible to secondary bacterial infections. I would consider treating with an antibiotic and making sure the tank is well aerated.
