From everything that I have read on this forum and in books its normal until your tank is mature to have nitrates at 20ppm. My tank has been up for 4 months and my nitrates are still at 20ppm. It just takes time and patience.

It is important to make sure they are getting their share of food around feeding time. This may mean that you have to use a feeding stick and place the food directly in front of them so they can grab it. It's probably not a good choice for reef aquariums because they have a tendency to pinch at corals and anemones looking for food.

I feed my shrimp by hooking a syrige up to some rigid airline tubing. Bloodworms and mysis work well.
