I wouldn't, don't see any benefits from it other than saving time and money.

I like the idea of using established water, liverock, livesand, filters, and filter media to start a new tank. Have done this and had coral in a new tank the day I set it up (SPS and LPS). Did great. Way faster that starting from scratch and waiting for it to cycle. Don't use nasty water that is syphoned from the sandbed, and only use water from a healthy tank. So, if the water is good, you can certainly do it. Best of luck!

I understand why you would use established LR, LS, filters and filter media but dont know why you would use water. About all beneficial bacteria isnt waterborne for long, and would rather find a safe place to attach to, i.e: LR, LS....

Yeas, I would also start with new water specially considering that the older it is the more refractory organics it will have.

I was thinking that I could use cycled water and not have to wait 6-8 wekks before adding fish something like what roblack did

water doesnt "cycle", the tank cycles. the bacteria that makes up the cycle is rarely mobile in the water column, well rarely might be a relative term, Id guess your smallest chunk of liverock has more bacteria than your whole volume of water however.

also, maybe Im wierd... but I love the look of a retardedly clean brand spanking new tank of water... but thats just me.

my RODI started running at 2PM today to fill my new system, I have a 1/3rd of the sump full...
