been doing some searches on here on over skimming and over filtering our water and not really nailing down the answer I am looking for. I run a sheet of thicker polyester cloth over my sump that all my water has to flow thru before it recircs. I change it out almost every day. should I be worried about cleaning the water to much and starving my corals etc ?

NO. Most coral can survive on just good light. What kind of corals are we talking about??

I use a 200 micron filter bag at the end of my inlet to the sump and have no probs with it. I only have to take it out once a week and rinse it with the jet wash before putting it back. The filter bags are fantastic.

I use them on my other system and agree with you about the filter bags... that system is a fish only set up, so I wasn't concerned about over filtering. The polyester cloth I am using is basically the same as the filter bag material, just laid out flat over egg crate and way cheaper.
