Need some help regarding flow

I’m in the process of setting up an SPS dominated 375gal tank (96” X 36” X 25”). I would like to keep from drilling holes in the tank (except those required for the coast to coast overflow) - this would eliminate the possibility of a CL and simplify the plumbing. Sump return will be a Hammerhead. So my question to all the large tank experts is: considering the return will be at least 2500-3500 GPH (I’ll use that to keep the sand bed and lower portion of the LRs clean), do you think 4 Tunze 6201 streams on a 7095 multicontroller would provide sufficient (and correct type of) flow for the SPS? Does it make sense to base the major portion of the flow just on stream pumps? Am I headed in a totally wrong direction?

Do you consider them to be better than the Tunze's? I thought I'd heard they've been have some problems.

ok here is the thing CL once you do it thats it. but less heat in the water. If the tank is going to be glass you can go with the vortech but remember that you cant point those. And as for Tunze they put out little heat are low wattage and can pretty much mount them anywhere. It all comes to preference. if you want a natural look go with CL but plan it out really well. After a couple months the Tunze will be so full of coraline that you wont even see them anymore :D

I would drill a closed loop with an oceansmotion 4 way. If you really dont want to drill.. I would go 4 tunzes in the corners with 2 tunze wave boxes

So, if I'm following correctly, there is really no reason to not go 4 streams instead of CL? Consensus is that an SPS tank can be as successful with just streams as it can with a CL?

Heat is something I definitely can't use - I live in Florida - it's hot enough already. To be honest I didn't realize that was such a problem with streams.

I vote for 4 tunze stream 6201 or 6205 and tunze waveboxes if you want to generate some wave....

I don't think tunze stream pump will add that much heat into your system base on my experience using tunze product for many years. I ran 4 tunze stream 6200 and 2 waveboxes in my 240g without any heat issue. BTW, i didn't have any chiller in that system and i live in southern California.

During the summer month, i have 2 6" fans running on the main display and 2 9" fans in the sump controlled by the ACJr. My tank Temp never go past 80 degrees F.... I also run 4 x 400w MH and 4 x 48" VHO......

I really like the idea of the wavebox, but they have such a huge footprint!

Anyone have a handle on the difference between the 6201s and 6205s?

My vote is for CL. much less heat added than 4-6 streams. and no cords coming out the top of the tank. CL outputs are easier to hide than streams too.
Did anyone mention the cost of 4-6 Streams? ouch

Streams are the best bang for your buck, low wattage and reliable, CL would be the next best thing, great flow and no PH in the tank, although higher wattage draw. Vortechs are not worth the money right now. I sold mine after a year. I have 6200, 6201, 6212. Once you get the coral in your tank, you will never even notice the PHs.

There is 4 waveboxes on this tank, do you see it :D

The 6201 pushing approx 53xxgph and the 6205 is 59xxgph with smaller footprint and lower energy consumption also come with magnet that will be able to handle 1" thickness.

I am running 13 pieces of tunze in my new tank 4 6301, 4 6205 (still waiting) and 4 waveboxes.... Heat issue is my least concern..

I caught your thread. Unbelievable what you've done with your Tunzes. I'm building holders which are an exact copy of yours (hope you don't mind:o). My tank will be glass, so it's a little more difficult to hide a wave box - but I'll definitely give it some thought to see if I can come up with something.

Tom, it isn't impossible to have the wavebox hidden if you check out Mike (Dudester) thread on his 450g build and Ed (Ed_Reef) 290g build, both are glass tank and they have the wavebox and tunze stream hidden esp on Ed 290g. Its all depend on who do you have building the tank and which style. If your tank going to be peninsula, it is much easier to come up with something to hide the box.

As far as tunze holder i really don't mind because this hobby is about sharing information. I was going to do some CL but i decided not to because of the amount of holes being drill and the electricity usage not to mention possibility of leakage.
