I think you should be okay. Just be careful near the other silicone seams when removing the baffles.

I thought about it too if I ever get a larger skimmer.

Not to take over the thread but since ELOS is known for clean lines I hate to muck up the forum with a sump question.

Here is my question(s).

Where does everything go?
I know where the skimmer sits and where the RO/DI is stored but the three smaller chambers are of interest. I understand the filter sock but then the purpose of the middle chamber and the one next to it - I just dont understand.

Where does the return line go in the sump?

There seems to be a hard plastic (straight rigid) tube coming off the sump. Purpose? I have two lines from the tank so what is this tube for?

Basicly if someone could post a pic of there sump and how it is setup with some clip art notes that would help.

Thanks

RO/DI goes in the far left.

For the media chambers, right chamber is for filter sock, middle is for fast flowing media and left is for slower moving media. Skimmer, float and return pump in the back area...

Thanks Nuuze,

So the hard tube (gray in color) is for the return line?

The skimmer and return pump sit in the same area.

As I understand it:

Water goes 1st into the sock then ...

Drains into middle chamber where some water can go into the skimmer area and some water will flow into the 3rd chamber.

You can put media into these last two chambers but it looks like most people do not - why?

I have done a small upgrade from 3 nano's to a 120XL and there was no instructions since I bought the tank from an individual. He never set it up so its second hand new.

The gray color tube is where the tank drain goes to.

You got the chambers right. Some people place carbon in the middle and phos media in the third. I've seen some put live rock in the middle and sand in the last.

I don't really use the chambers and thought about cutting them out too like Brian for a larger skimmer.

"The gray color tube is where the tank drain goes to."

Wouldn't the drain line from the tank go into the sock first?

Also has anyone tried installing a vortec MP40w under the drain line? You would have to mod the plastic cover. Not sure if you would get the desired flow with that placement but thought it would keep everything internal.

No, skimmer output goes to filter sock.

Now it is starting to make since. Thanks again
