I just started a 90 gallon tank 2 weeks ago and I can't get a straight answer on how many fish I can put in the tank. I started the tank with 9 green chromis. Please help!

fish will all depend on the type of fish.

if you have a list of what you would like, post the list and we can go through it and tell you what will work and what won't.

you can't use the rule of thumb 1" of fish per how many gal. in SW.

also are you looking to go reef or fish only?

You could probably get away with that fish load but it is going to be pushing it. I would suggest you drop one of the tangs from the list and maybe add a wrasse or something smaller. That is providing that you have the appropriate amount of liverock in the system and a good Protein Skimmer.

The Maroons will need to be a mated pair or they will likely get mean and kill each other.

I would wait until your nitrate is near zero before adding more fish. In the mean time read up on QT tank procedures. You should only add fish by one or two per month and they should go thru the QT tank (There are a few exceptions to the rule). You should take a hard look at your stocking list and decide in which order that you want to add the fish to the tank. Some fish get very territorial and will get bent every time you add another fish to the tank. It's best to add those types of fish towards the end of the stocking list.

The number of fish you can put in the tank depends on the fish, biological filtration, and your equipment.
