RIT Dye

Does anyone know if it’s safe for a reef tank to use a dye such as Rit dye on pvc that will be in a tank. I’m thinking of dyeing some pvc black that I will be using in a diy kalk reactor I am building.

I looked up the msds for Rit dye and was not excited about putting it in my tank.

Also, I'm not all that sure the dye will absorb into PVC pipe and even if it did, I would not be comfortable about the leaching results.

Krylon Fusion paint is safe, I believe. I can look around if that approach is interesting.. I don't know about the dye.

Is this for aesthetics, or to prevent light from entering it to reduce coralline growth inside?

Aesthetics. I thought about the krylon approach but didn't think it would work too well on the threads. Basically, I'm using john guest fittings that will protrude into the reactor chamber and I wanted them to match the black acrylic base. Also, one of the fittings will have a pvc cap on it and I wanted that to match as well.

Additionally, since this is for a kalk reactor, I didn’t know if Krylon would stand up over time.

I really appreciate all of the help guys.

P.S. I got the idea for the dye from when I dye the white plastic wheels of my kids rc cars.

I also used RIT to color alunimum parts after I anodized them. I would leave it out of the aquarium.
