I picked up this frag yesterday along with a couple aussie acan frags, supposedly the colony it came off of came with the aussie order. They had it labeled as a Acan Maxima. All I know is it deffinately isn't a normal acan lord, almost has the look of a candycane.

Polyps are about 1.25" across, and it eats like a hog... lol

Anyway...
2 pics with no actinics and one just actinic

And I have had this for a while, guy I got it from said he thought it was a enchinosomething... About 7" across, and with the actinics on it has a blue sheen with red edge and mouths.

I dont believe the first frag is an Acanthastrea species at all. Looks a lot like a Favia to me, but it would be helpful to have something in the photo for size reference (it looks like there is a lot of expose skeleton on the side of the frag- a clear shot of that might help with an ID.

The second one is a "chalice"; likely a species of Echinophyllia.

Checked it over some more and made some observations....

The skeleton deffinately has large "teeth" to it, kinda like a trumpet/candycane, but totally unlike any favia I have seen and deffinately not like a traditional acan.
The 2 polyps are connected without a doubt.

Snapped a so-so pic of the back side of the skeleton

Looking at what we can see of the skeleton, I still dont think Acanthastrea. That said, Im not so convinced its Favia now either. Not sure what that is... just gonna have to watch it grow.

The "maxima" looks kind of Caulastrea like to me.
