View Full Version : Zoanthids + Coral Frenzy = Growth?

I just picked up some Coral Frenzy the other day for the first time, and I've given it to my corals twice so far, each time target feeding my goni, hammer, torch, trumpets, and zoa's...

My question is this, has anyone had any positive results from target feeding zoa's with Coral Frenzy? Will it help them grow and reproduce faster? Logic tells me that when something is fed directly, it will do better than not being fed, but I'm curious as to how much more growth I can expect if I keep this method up. Thanks

Probably the only ones really that would readily take in that food would be, Palythoas, protopalys, zoanthus gigantus. All zoa's get a majority of their food from light. with the exception of extra food by the polyps I just mentioned.

Oh, really? That sucks in a way... I gently floated some of the Coral Frenzy over top of my eagle eyes and AoG's, and the closed up for a little bit.. Maybe it just irritated them instead of nourishing them.

If they are true AOG's they will probably benefit and do exhibit prey capture. I've got some AOG look alikes that do not exhibit any prey capture though... Eagle Eyes are one of many zoanthids in the hobby that probably won't benefit from target feeding and shows no signs of prey capture.

Here's a pic of the potential AoG's. What do you think? The real deal, or impostors?

Not sure if they're 'real' or not but, those look like they'll eat.

Even after a refresh? It's working for me on my desktop, and on the iPhone, and for Skeptic as well...

I am a skeptic as well.
based simply on a visual judgement, not an educated one.
I don't often see zoas actually 'catch' food. They're too small, and do not usually fully close to 'catch'.

Palys are a different story. I've seen them gobble up food.

They look more like the similar morphs I have and they strike me as being a wild colony. However, they do strike me as a zoanthid that will potentially benefit from target feeding.

Damn, I was hoping they were the actual factual AoG's. Even if they aren't, I still like them just as much, and am looking forward to a large colony of them someday... I'll keep up with the feeding twice weekly and see where it gets me. I wish I had two seperate colonies, one to feed, and the other to use as a control to gauge growth increase. Thanks for the input

That's all that really matters.

Interesting, thanks all, and thanks for asking the question xerog. I didn't know anything about certain zoas vs. paly feeding information. Good info.
Your red Zoas are amazing looking xerog. Their bright red rings are fierce looking.

Coral Frenzy and Mysis is all I feed, but sparingly.

MUCHO REEF, have you noticed any substantial growth out of your zoanthid/paly communities since feeding the Coral Frenzy? I'm still going at it, and I hope to see some visible signs of growth from any of the corals that are accepting it.
