I run carbon in a filter sock that my skimmer empties into. I do this because I run ozone in my skimmer. Although I would still use it if I wasn't using ozone. The clearer the water the better the light penetrates.

I run ESV carbon usally in the filter sock and tri pellet carbon in sump. Makes my water look like vodka!

I run it for a week every two months. Just CYA kinda thing. If you do reg water changes you should be okay.

I run it full time in my filter sock inside a mesh bag. I change it out once a month. I think it helps to remove any unwanted chemicals.
