View Full Version : Attaching corals to glass and overflows?

I am running out of space to mount corals (SPS) on my rock. There's plenty of space on the rear glass and on the two overflows. I have tried glueing with super glue gel and with epoxy putty, but nothing remains stuck, especially opn the overflows. Both areas have Coralline, so a fairly rough surface. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've seen people cover a magnet with epoxy and glue a frag to it. then put the magnet where you want it on your glass and let the coral encrust.

just get a pair of good rare earth magnets. The cheap ferrite/bonded ones are too weak to hold a largish coral in flow.

I used to play a lot with DIY magnets coated with epoxy as well as purchase them from aquamags.

I still use them but not for very many sps. I wasnt pleased with the light coverage for most sps when the frag/colony is on the wall

I think I will try the coated magnet idea. I have seen frag discs with magnets in them. that might work. I will try one or two SPS like that to see how they grow. Good experiment:crazy1:

I got it to work with my caps, I used two part expoxy on the overflow. But, I did make sure to get all the coralline algae off of it first. Held the frag there for about 20 seconds.

Now it has encrusted over, and can't even see the expoxy.

Here is a bad picture of it (( taken with the flash, so colors are a bit off ))

Glued them directly to overflow box...but don't reccommend gluing a soft coral like that. I got lucky.

gluing zoas is how its done. you can lop the head clean off the polyop and seal it in a wad of glue and they will grow

nice growth though :)

Wow, that's a good idea! And yet so simple!

When you say cover a magnet with epoxy, what kind of epoxy are you talking about?

If you glue them directly onto a coraline spot they hold better. Just be careful till they encrust.
