I think i finally got a male and female bangaii. Instead of chasing the new fish all over the tank, the first bangaii is rubbing against the other. However... the "queen" (is the female usually dominant?) of the tank eats like a pig, anything and everything. The other one however won't eat anything. I normally feed the fish in my tank flakes and my own mix of chopped sea food. The new fish is being difficult. What is an easy inexpensive food that bangaiis are known to favor? It's been almost a week now and i don't want to lose this fish.

Mine both take mysis. I would try Rod's food just to get him feeding on frozen though first.

male might be holding babies, they won't eat for three weeks if that is the case. brine and bbs worked well for me (live) a lot of bangaii's are coming in sick. watch for heavy breathing.

Block head makes a good point, is the lower jaw on the fish not eating extended almost looking like he has a full mouth?

I've got a pair of Bangaii's as well, and the male definitely has a full mouth. When I put food in the tank he swims over to it, but just looks at it. Its getting close to 3 weeks now, so he must be pretty hungary.

I'm getting anxious for him to release the babies!

No, this is a new addition to the tank but i do think it's the male. I got some frozen brine today and he actually ate some of that. Feeding him is difficult however as he is hiding behind the rocks. Hopefully he will get over his squeamishness and come out and feed with the rest of the fish. I WISH it were because he had eggs in his mouth :)

Mine love mysis and bloodworms (live or frozen, just a few occasionally). Neither of mine will touch flake or pellets at all.

I bought some frozen mysis as well, but thought they might be too big? I haven't thawed a block yet.. will try one in the morning. My first bangaii eats almost anything i put in the water. I wish all fish were that easy. I guess i lucked out.

i would try to remove and treat with meds. bangers have been coming in w/ some kind of crud lately. the stress of shipping seems to put them over the edge. they come in, seem ok, stop or slow down eating. start breathing heavy. day or 2 dead.
