it's very fine, and comes off like dust in the water when i scrape it. does not turn purple over time, so doesn't sound like coraline.

i've got some hair algae, but seems to be localized for now. otherwise, water params are good.

That's generally called film algae. Scrape it off with a razor, and have a fuge or phosban reactor to absorb the phosphate it contains or it will be back. When it is really bad, (high phosphates) it will be back every 4 hours.

Use only ro/di water. (no phosphate)

arrgh. i need to do something about my fuge. i obviously have excess nutrients in the system, but my chaeto just will *not* grow.

i need to upgrade my lighting or something.
