Would a Hydor Koralia 3 850 GPH be over kill for a 65 gallon 36x18x24 LPS with some SPS tank, or should I go with the #2 600GPH.

One Koralia 3 would be *under*kill IMO. I'd go with at least two of them.

If I were you I'd go with 2 #3's or at least one #4 if you're on a budget.

Best bet would be a #3 and a #4. I just put a #2 and a #3 into a 55 gallon (comparable dimensions) that also has a 500gph return coming through and I really wish I had either gone with 2 #3's or a #3 and a #4. And I'm not even planning on adding SPS!

I have a 55 with 2x #4's and no issues with too much flow whatsoever. Even my percs are strong enough to swim right into the discharge, within inches of the powerhead. They are mounted right near the top of the tank on opposite sides and there is no issue with slop over the sides; in fact it only improves the shimmer of the mh's.

Have to agree... at least 2 x K3's. I would suggest 2 x K4's honestly.

I have 2 x K3's & a Tunze Nano 6045 (1189gph) on my soon to be 54g corner. That doesn't even include the 300gph return.

I would use 2 4s
