I believe xenia likes some nutrients in the water column because it is believed they obtain at least some of their nutrients that way. How is the ph and alkalinity of your water? Possibly even the lighting if it isn't enough- try to shoot for at least 3-5 watts per gallon. I ran a 55 gallon reef tank for a couple of years under power compacts and later metal halides with kalk dosing at nite and my pink pom pom xenias grew like crazy.
