Alright, so I have a new fixture. Its the PFO 2x250w halide w/ 10k bulbs, and 2x110 VHO actinics. I know what VHO ballast Im running, its the ice cap 660. Now my question is, what ballast do I run with it, as far as the halides go? I have (2) 250w PFO electronic ballasts, age unknown. I also have a 2x250w dual PFO magnetic ballast, age is about 4 months old. Which would be the best option to run? Im running the magnetic right now.

Some people say the electronic uses 1/3 the electricity of the magnetic, which I think is a little exaggerated. People say the magnetic makes the bulbs burn more intense, but that means you replace them more often. Which is fine with me.

Overall, Im looking for best color and growth. For my 10ks Im currently running at XM SEs. But if the electronic really is THAT MUCH more efficient, then I wouldnt be opposed to going that route.

If I where running 10k's and actinic I would go with Electronic, if it where just a higher kelvin bulb with no Actinic supplementation like a radium for instance, I would go Magnetic. Just my 0.02c worth.

I think 33% efficiency is overstated. I would tend to believe more like 15%. Of the two, I would go magnetic. I just have had better luck and better consistency. MH electronic ballasts are finicky.
