I was just looking around at everyone's tanks right now and wanted to get something different, what kind of weird/interesting fish should I get? It has to be reef safe, and that includes it can't eat softies, LPS, SPS, clams, shrimp, and it has to fit in a 28 gallon nano cube and can't out grow the 28 gallon nano cube. I was thinking a filefish? Will a filefish work? I was thinking about one of these two: Colored Filefish (Pervagor melanocephalus) or Jade Filefish (Paramonacanthus japonicus).

Eats corals, by what I know. Google it, and that will tell.

mystery wrasse, opausom(sp???) wrasse, blue stripe clownfish, anthias, any flassher wrasse, scott's fairy wrasse, figure 8 puffer (yes i know there freshwater but they can be acclimated over to salt just like mono's) but no on the filefish they eat corals and get to big for a 28 gallon

Blue or yellow assessor. They're fairly hard to find.

If I remember correctly the pearl fish lives in the rectum of a cucumber.

I third the goby/pistol shrimp pair. I have a Wheeler's goby and a male/female pair of Tiger pistols that are a ton of fun to watch. The shrimp always have one antennae on the goby, and if they want to venture out further than their antennae can reach, the goby realizes it and moves to accommodate them.

I know it probably most likely wont work, but do you think a blue ribbon eel will work for the 28 gallon tank? One of the LFS has a blue ribbon eel that's about 1.5 feet long I think and eats frozen food! The price is about $90 and they are going to be having a HUGE sale soon because they are closing at the end of this month.. I can put a few PVC pipes in the sand so it can go in them.

I had a McKosker's flasher and it was awesome. Lost it for no known reason. :(

I also had a mystery wrasse that I lost when my tank leaked recently. (it didn't enjoy a week in the Brute) Both of them had lots of ooh's and aah's from onlookers.

(both of them were from Diver's Den too :( :( :( )

Blue-ribbon eels escape or die 99% of the time. They always look cool in the pet store's aquarium, but they never last. Resist temptation!

I agree with the blue-spotted jawfish (great personality, but make sure there's a tight lid on your tank). Otherwise, if you dedicate the whole tank to these slow-movers, banded pipefish or seahorses would be cool, too.

Definitely avoid the blue ribbon for it's terrible survival rate and a 28g is pathetically small for an adult.

How about a Paracentropogon longispinus or similar species? It's a cool little waspfish. Of course, you probably want your shrimp to be full grown before adding this fish...
