My clownfish attacks me!

Hi again everyone. I just had to ask something. Whenever I go to feed my corals, my clownfish will attack me. He is a black and white clown, the one in my avatar. He never used to do this, but started as he got older. I will feed him first, but even so he will get so angry with me and bite my hand. Anyone else have this experience?

yes my clowfish doit also i hate those little bastards . they doit all the time.

my female occ. has an issue with my hands as well. the male couldnt care less.

Suck it up! It's just a fish. You've got to show it who's boss by smacking it around every now and then. If not that fish will end up hanging out on street corners and mugging tourists.

Mine made me bleed one night when I was pulling a tile from the tank with eggs on it. They are just protecting their territory.

I now keep one finger pointed at the clowns and flick them when they get close to protect the rest of my hand. It hurts.

LOL! I thought it would be common with the Maroon clownfish, but didn't know it was common for all the them. Sometimes I will kind of shoo him away. He doesn't really even care. He is a tough man!!! I better start smacking him around though. I don't want him hanging out on the street corners and if he mugged someone, that would be the end of our relationship. I just can't deal with that sort of thing. ;-)

mine does it all the time. if my hand goes near her xenia colony, the attack is one. same with any clown iv had at work for an extended period of time.

They're fiesty little terds. I've never had one that doesn't nip. It's kind of funny though. Try to grab him, i do it to mine all the time. It's a fun game.

Same here. Except mine doesn't really bite....she sort of just head butts my hand. The male hangs back. They'll swim into the cup I use to soak foods pre-feed though. I love these guys.

I'm afraid to stick my hand in the tank bc of it. It doesn't hurt, just startles me, then I jerk quickly hit the light on top and get a bruise on my hand. lol

All but one of my clowns ( over the years ) have drawn blood. That includes B&W Os. Percs, Clarkiis, Cinnamons, saddlebacks and GSMs. The only ones that haven't bitten me are my pink skunks -- though they will "bark" at me when my hand is in the tank from time to time.

My false perc hosted a patch of persistent hair algae once. I really got my hand beat up cleaning it out! Even the little 3/4" baby clown in my nano attacks me when I'm cleaning the tank. Bold little buggers arn't they? ;)

The only biter I have is my GSM. The Oc in the nano couldn't care less.

My maroon so far hasn't drawn blood from me but she tries to nibble once in a while. She also has a thing against any type of towels or wash cloths, trying to attack them through the glass when I'm wiping the front of the tank off. :D

My big Clarki nibbles my finger gently. But today got a little more agressive when I was stuffing silversides into my nems. So I gave her a hunk too. She proceeded to take that piece and jam it as hard as she could into the big Nem's mouth... Go figure. They seem to like formula 2 the best. And Mysis shrimp and flake second. They just think silversides are nem food I guess.

my clarkii bite me when I try to feed the anemone that he/she is living in it.... but I shoo him away with a fork, now everytime I put a fork in the tank he/she will run and hide in the rock..lol We need to teach them who's boss.

mine drew blood in at least 5 spots while i was rearranging rock work. If i could have caught her, she would have been in the toilet i was so mad.

Hey Ryan, I might try to do it. Today I tried something. I would try to shoo him away and it made him mad so I tried to grab him to talk some sense into him. ;-) That made him even more mean. I was able to feed all my corals, but he was right there charging me and biting me.
