I have a pair of Koralia 4's in my 90 gal.
I hooked them up to a timer to vary the flow but when they kick on they make a
chattering noise.

I remember reading somewhere in reef central that you can modify them so they don't chatter, but I can't find the thread.

Also, I'm not sure if there are designed to be cycled on and off. Does anyone have any insights here?

Thanks!

They arent supposed to be used with a wavemaking device, however it has been done with no ill effects, you need to take the front cover off and slide a piece of rigid airline tubing onto the shaft that is the distance from the end of the propeller to the cover. (Hope that was clear) that will stop the chatter.

Nauticac4 ... I would imagine that the airline tube would rub up against the end of the propeller. It must have enough torque to overcome the friction.
I'll try it ... thanks!

You leave a small gap of about 1/4" between the prop and tube so the prob can slide out a tad and spin the right direction.

That made 0 sence, but no, you will not burn them up quick of that is what the guy means. People have been useing koralias on wavemakers for years without issues.

Not too many years, didn't the Koralia line come out at the beginning of 2007. So the longest anyone could have possibly used them would be a little over 18 months, assuming they bought them right when they came out.

Sorry to be technical, 1 - 1.5+ years. Do a search, you will find tons of people have been useing them and no, they do not burn up when put on a controller.
