Yeah, looks mullety :) Don't search for images though... you might get some early Billy Ray Cyrus pics.

It is a mullet, the genus is Mugil, but the species could be any number of fish. If you knew where it was collected it would help, if I were to guess I would say white mullet, Mugil curema, or it could also be M. trichodon, because of the black pectoral fin, but many juv mullet are hard to tell apart.

good eating, and will catch everything from Catfish to Billfish.

i saw them at the long beach aquarium, they looked awesome in a big school. Does anyone know where i can buy them?

Here in FL they are a big bait fish, but not sure where you could find them in CA. I used to live in San Diego and on the strand, which is south of Coranado, you can find them along the beach on the bay side. Other then that ask around in fresh water circles, believe it or not, they are much more popular for native fresh water fish keepers.
