View Full Version : Mac OsX Widget

08/11/2008, 06:37 PM
Hola! I've been working up a little OsX widget. It's in its infancy, so no doubt trees will fall and homes will crumble when you first run it. But we'll get through it :p It's pretty basic, no controls or anything, just spitting out what the controller says. Be sure to flip the widget over and configure your settings first.

You can grab it here (http://reefnook.com/applications)

Leave feedback here or on the forum there.

Also, this is freely available for modification, so mess with it all you want. If you make it better, please let me know :p

I get an error message saying that it is not a valid widget and I can not install it.

I have been waiting for someone to come out with something like this. Keep up the work.

I was hoping we'd get farther then that :p

I'll take a look at it tonight.

I'll try this when I get home.

08/12/2008, 03:19 AM
The widget installed for me. I'll have my ACIII connected to my network this week, so I'll report back then.

08/12/2008, 07:24 AM
get the error "could not connect to the controller"

08/12/2008, 08:17 AM
skimmerdude - I sent you a pm about getting some more info.
gregorfd - Did you configure the widget to connect correctly? You have to flip it over and put in your controller information.

Please email me at chuck dot collins at reefnook dot com and I can help you offline.

08/12/2008, 08:55 AM
yes, flipped and put in the info. i'll toss you an email.

Will this work with a serial connected AC, or Ethernet only?

08/12/2008, 11:12 AM
Ethernet only right now. Theoretically, it should be able to get it working with any sort of connection, I just dont have a way to test a serial connection right now. Its on the list of future upgrades to the widget.

08/12/2008, 12:37 PM
I see a lot of views. It would be sweet if somebody posted about this actually working :p

I updated the widget. I had some dependencies that were not included in the original widget, which was throwing errors.

You can find the new version here (http://reefnook.com/applications)

08/13/2008, 12:43 PM
I have the widget on my laptop now....only now I need to get my IP address off my desktop and too lazy to get off the lazy boy

08/13/2008, 01:19 PM
One more update. I just uploaded a new version that works with case-sensitive file systems.

As before, you can find it here (http://reefnook.com/applications)

Works great on my laptop, wireless using airport (Macbook pro OSX 10.5)

08/13/2008, 04:05 PM
Thats great news! :p

Newest version works great for me, I previously could not install.

It took my a day or so to reply, as I was working. Thanks again.

is anybody else stuck like chuck? (pun intended)

ok. on a serious note ... is there any way to make the widget auto expand the height? I have a few devices on my AC3, and it gives me a scroll bar :-(

08/13/2008, 11:54 PM
Marco -

I'm working on that now. I've got a super talented designer working with me that hasn't made it to the widget yet. Yes, that awesome bit of blue gradient was butchered purely by my hand. As soon as he gets me a comp, I'll work on killing the scroll.

08/14/2008, 09:25 AM
haha. it's cool. I'm not much of a designer either ... I just do the Hosting & server work.

08/14/2008, 10:53 PM
Chuck .. i sent you an email ...

08/17/2008, 10:09 AM
Updated the widget to be much easier on the eyes, as well as fix the scrolling issue.

You can find it here (http://reefnook.com/applications)

08/17/2008, 11:16 AM
can't connect error has returned 8-(

08/17/2008, 11:36 AM
Crap :) Hang on, I'll go unscrew whatever I did.

08/17/2008, 11:37 AM
Actually, Im going to shoot you an email. Incoming...

08/17/2008, 11:46 AM
Sweet mary. I think I fixed your problem. I was working on some code to import the data to the site and it crept into the release version of this widget. Sorry :)

08/17/2008, 01:53 PM
back working again!

Chuck, works great thank you. Now how about control ? :) :)

09/07/2008, 09:15 AM
Any one running this on a hackentosh?

I flipped it over entered all my info but it never connects.

09/07/2008, 05:42 PM
I can connect with the widget either, it used to work.

09/08/2008, 11:24 AM
Please send an email to [email protected] and I'll help you get it sorted. The widget gods seem to not like skimmerdude :p

I've been on vacation the last week or so, but I can get you running asap.

09/13/2008, 04:43 PM
I put a new version up here (http://www.reefnook.com/applications/widget) which may help some of you.

Aiko - You're email is bouncing, can you send me another email from a valid account so we can get you sorted?

Also, jimsflies - I sent you some info on debugging and didn't hear back, ping me if you still can't get it working.

01/15/2009, 09:08 AM
Can anyone give any tips on how to make this widget work? I tried sending Chuck a couple emails but haven't heard anything back from him.

I tried to set it up on my imac 4-5 months ago and never got it working. Now I have a macbook and would really like it to function on that. But still having the same problem, says it cannot connect.

01/15/2009, 09:10 AM
Jim, sorry about that, holidays and all.

Shoot me another email and we'll get it sorted.

01/15/2009, 10:06 AM
No problem. I'll resend.

01/15/2009, 10:07 AM
Hi Chuck-

I sent you an email as well.
