mesh mod?

I will be doing a mesh mod to my Octopus NW110. I have the octo 1000 pump. My question is should I use 1 2 or 3 layers of enkamat and does the first set of needles pop off or do I need to cut them off?? Please Help.

for a small pump like that use 2

My RS-100 has a Sedra 3500 on it and I used 3 layers. Not sure how it compares to you pump though.

Ok here is an update for those that are looking into doing this. I went with 2 layers, and wow does this thing skim. It made a good skimmer into an awesome skimmer. I had to lower the water level about 2 inches due to the increase in air intake. I have also done the 1/4 inch venturi mod to this. The pump doesnt like to start up like it did before the mod, but a little fiddling and it starts right up.
