Can you upgrade a RIO?

I tried a search on this and couldn't find the info i needed.

Can you upgrade a Rio pump to act as a needlewheel? I'm using a RIO on my skimmer and would like to upgrade it a bit but not sure what my options are.

which rio pump? I mesh moded a 2100 to use on a skimmer. It worked well.
